For this workshop we have some larger bunnies than we normally tackle in a one day party tutorial. These dudes are about 3-5 pounds in size. Because of this, I am offering a multi stage workshop that is really good for those who want a more in depth education on the full size style of taxidermy. These buns are gonna need to “be in the oven” for about a week for tanning, The workshop is broken down into two days, one week apart.
First day will focus on the skinning and prepping of the fur as well as eye construction and skull preparation. That will take about 5 hours. Once the rabbits are skinned on day one they will go through the tanning process at the studio. This takes about 4 days, so by the time you come back for day two, we will focus on the sculpting part. You can choose anthropomorphic or au naturel. This will require about 6 hours. The lessons you learn here will be applicable for all mammals you might want to tackle in the future!
This is a pretty leisurely course with plenty of time for Q&A and examples of how different methods of form building with increase your familiarity with many variations of different taxidermy methods. Don’t want to dedicate that much time but still want to learn some of the ropes? Check out our quarterly Making New Friends hands off tutorial. This is basically a lecture with examples regarding the processes involved in taxidermy, but you don’t do any experiential learning. Upside? Its cheaper, and faster, but you don’t get to play with the toys. We offer lecture based opportunities in skeletal, taxidermy, and also several more specialized topics. Keep checking back on the website for those opportunities!
